What is bankroll management (BRM) in poker?
Bankroll management is how you handle the money you devote to poker. It sets the number of buy-ins to keep for your stake so you can absorb variance without risking it all.
How many buy-ins do you need to manage your bankroll well?
There's no universal number. A rough guide: 100 to 150 buy-ins to play without money pressure, plus 50 to 100 to absorb big swings, so about 200 buy-ins. The calculator keeps your target between 150 and 250 buy-ins, and you can change it by hand.
How is your target calculated?
You answer 4 questions: your goal (an occasional player doesn't need BRM), the comfort you need to play without thinking about money (100, 125 or 150 buy-ins), the swings of your formats (+50, +75 or +100) and how fast you move up (−25 if you move up fast, +25 if you move up slowly). Your bankroll divided by your target gives the average buy-in you can play.
